More Bathtub Racing!

These pictures of the SGC Bathtub Racer and the text were sent to me by John Gaul.

“I remember having several conceptual design conversations with Professor Darlington, he was my Machine Design teacher (I think that was his name), in regard to the layout and build up for my modified version of the racer.  I can tell you that when rebuilt, it was a whole lot faster after dumping the tub and going from 100-125 cc’s to 400cc’s.  The pictures that I sent are of the resulting vehicle from my modifications to the original frame.

My best guess would be the frame was assembled in the metal shop and then raced in the 78-79 school year.  My understanding was that while we had a good (read functional) inline racer (the motor sat behind the tub) many of the competitive racers were designed with the motor sitting beside the tub.  Some of the racers were going up on two wheels around the turns.  The entries with the side by side designs were significantly wider than the inline designs and as such were much faster in the turns to say the least.  This also provided much more air flow to cool the motor.  I am not sure but this might have been our first entry into the competition, which accounts for our position on the learning curve.”
